The University of Burgos signed an agreement with DIRSE, as associated partner of Account4GreenEco

The Spanish Association of Sustainability Managers (DIRSE) and the University of Burgos signed an agreement to reinforce the cooperation between both entities and promote the development of programs of mutual interest related to the profession, training and research on sustainability information.

Sustainability requires reliable information that should be available to the different socioeconomic agents and elaborated through solid scientific and ethical structures, which make visible the connections of ecological and social problems with business and, in this way, promote business responses in the context of the Anthropocene.

The agreement establishes a framework for carrying out joint activities, as well as cooperation in projects and programs of mutual interest in ESG matters, such as training, research or events. In particular, this agreement is proposed as a framework for managing the collaboration of DIRSE as the associated partner of the Erasmus+ Sustainability Accounting Learning Platform for a Green Economy (Account4GreenEco) project, funded by the European Union. The proposal, structured in three years, consists of the development of a dynamic and interactive platform for open online training on sustainability information that will address different issues related to the usefulness, preparation and monitoring of this information for teachers.

DIRSE is the most relevant association of sustainability professionals in Spain and gathers more than 400 members that represent the largest Spanish corporations. As an associated partner of the project, DIRSE will contribute by disseminating the results obtained. Likewise, it will act as a bridge between the academy and ESG professionals for the review of the training materials that are being developed.

Roundtable on the relevance of sustainability information for the accounting profession

Roundtable on the relevance of sustainability information for the accounting profession

On Feb 27, 2023, we co-organized a roundtable to share the growing importance of #sustainability #accounting for organizations and companies with students, lecturers, and other members of society. The panelists were Nuria Rodríguez, CSR and environmental maanager in Grupo Naturgy; Javier Cavero, ESG manager in RSM Spain; Andrés Ferrer, CEO in OMAWA Huella Ecológica S.L.; and Nicolás García, coordinator of the Erasmus+ Account4GreenEco project and the University of Burgos’ Master on Sustainability Information and Assurance.

The panelists highlighted that sustainability should not only be a matter of directives and regulations but a change in how companies are managed. The achievement of this goal requires multidisciplinary teams to understand all social, environmental, governance, and economic dimensions of business. They also reflect on the growing importance of sustainability information in their respective arena – business, auditing, consulting, and academia – that calls for new practitioners’ profiles and the university’s involvement in responding to that demand.

You can watch the full roundtable (in Spanish) on the Youtube Channel of the University of Burgos.

Account4GreenEco Kick-Off Meeting

On February 8, 2023, we held the Kick-Off Meeting (KOM) of the project at the General Library of the University of Burgos. The purpose of the KOM was to set the basis for the development of the next three years of Account4GreenEco and design the first steps to produce the first module of the platform and the organization of the first teaching activity with students that will be held in Trento in fall 2023.

Ten project members of the five partners – University of Burgos (Spain), the Center for Sustainability Management (CSM) of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg (Germany), Montpellier Business School (France), the University of Trento (Italy) and Gestionet Group (Spain) – participated in the KOM. You can learn more about then in the “Partners” section of our webpage.

Account4GreenEco aims to promote the integration of sustainability information in the curricula of the European Higher Education Area with the ultimate goal of supporting the green transition of the EU economy. During the three years of the project – which will end in November 2025 – an open online platform will be developed that will provide a dynamic and interactive environment through a series of learning materials and resources on sustainability information, such as its production, assurance, and internal control systems.
